Danish summer holidays
(26 June - 13 August, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.)
Only a few railway museums in the entire world can offer visitors a ride on a genuine vintage train as part of an ordinary visit - and the Danish Railway Museum is one of them! Rides are offered during Denmark's summer holidays and in several other periods during the year.
The train is usually made up of two carriages. One is a carriage for outings in the woods - i.e. semi-open - built in the 1880s for runs in summer on the Klampenborg line north of Copenhagen. The carriage was meticulously and elegantly refurbished a few years ago. The other passenger car is a so-called rystevogn (literally shaky carriage) which has run on various local railways in Denmark). Both have wooden seats, so the level of comfort is shaky just as it was in the good old days. The cars are also furnished with open end platforms so you can stand outside and enjoy the ride.
The train will be pulled by either a small steam locomotive from 1901 or an elegant, teakwood-clad motor carriage from 1927.
The trip departs from a station at the museum proper and lasts only a couple of kilometres (taking only five or ten minutes), so the ride easily fits in to even short museum visits. Trips are made every day between 11 a.m. and 3.30 p.m. The trip is free, once you have paid the admission fee.
Rides on the museum's mini-train are also free once you have paid the admission fee, and children and adults alike can ride the train, built on a scale of 1:7. In bad weather, mini-train rides are offered indoors. In good weather, the ride is offered on a somewhat larger track. Rides are offered daily from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
We reserve the right to make changes in the timetables of all vintage train runs.
